The theme (or main premise) of the group project was a video that went along a rap song that we created. My part was to act in the videos that went along with the rapping that went along in the background of the scenes (because I did not really want to rap at all). It did not work, because the hardest part was making the beat go along with the rapping, but the easiest part was recording the video to go along with the rapping (which I took part in - as in the recording).
Who is in your group?
My group members were Bailey Hosea and Steven Nguyen (also featured Devon Babjac).

What is your project about?
Our project was a senior farewell project where we tried to rap along to an instrumental (although I did not partake in the rapping because - well - it ended up unsuccessful for the most part, and I did not fully support creating a rap song in the first place). We recorded LIVE film of us doing things that matched exactly what we were rapping about.

What are you contributing?
Along with Bailey, I contributed and acted in most, if
not, a lot of the footage that we recorded LIVE of us doing things (along with Bailey) that went right along with things we were rapping about.

Post photo of your booth. What elements did you have at your booth?

Summarize your Capstone presentation. How was your overall experience?  What was the hardest part? What was the most fun? Other thoughts?

I had a small version and big version (underneath the table) of my infographic on a music department stand (that I 'stole' from a room in Fannin), my website in the center (that also has my video), a construction hardhat on my left (in the picture), and to the right of the laptop, brochures. I also had candy on top of my folder which had both the budget and essay (just for back-up).

The capstone judge, in particular, kept talking and asking questions for about sixteen minutes (I don't know why, but my friend who's booth was to the right of me timed it on his phone). I mean, I started to speak and talk about what I had on my booth in the middle of the whole senior capstone fair. Overall, it was fun. I mean, the hardest part about it was the few weird questions I was asked. Before and after the judging of my booth, I walked around to other booths, and it was pretty fun.

Identify props and other assets needed for the Capstone Presentation.

You will have the infographic poster, website, PSA and… What other props or visuals have you decided on?  Are you going to do a backdrop or trifold, handout, mini-handout, Smart Phone App, 3D model on your website and/or a physical model?

What other visual aids can be incorporated into your space to enhance your presentation and make you stand out from all the other presenters? What can catch people’s attention so they will want to stop and see what you are talking about?

I mean, if possible, I may incorporate three-panel display board right next to the infographic poster (one on each side of the table). Along with that, I'll also put candy on the table, and five to six color brochures (or black and white) mini-handout. Because my capstone is an awareness campaign, I've got to present a lot of information on different types of media (I wish I could do an app, but my procrastination has gotten the best of me - and plus, I do not have a legitimate phone with me right now anyways). I will try to make the awareness campaign diagrams and brochures as colorful as possible to draw in people's attention to the capstone presentation (on Wednesday for me).

How your Infographic Poster relates to your Capstone Project. Did you have to do more research to complete your poster? What was the easiest and hardest thing about creating the infographic? Did you create your infographic in the Winter Term or this semester? If in Winter Term, what additions or changes did you make? Is your poster done or do you still have some tweaking to finish?

My capstone technically breaks down different aspects of how buildings and transportation (that people need to use to get from one destination to another---a building, most of the time) and points out specific, possibly overwhelming statistics. I had to do a lot more research to complete my poster, because my January term infographic did not have any. The hardest would probably been finding legitimate statistics about certain aspects of the green movement (in relation to architecture). I have a few more things to tweak before it becomes a finished product (I plan on updating the temperature in Dallas stat every single day until as late as can be before presentation day in April).
Idea – list of possible ideas for infographic from your capstone

I'm going to put more details and in-depth statistics about green construction (aka green/ sustainable architecture, etc.) in my fixed infographic from January term.

Create a skeleton & flowchart for first draft

Statistics----->more statistics------>and even more statistics
---all cited, and year is posted alongside each stat---
(i.e. 80% of drivers drive cars that emit carbon monoxide, USGS 2009)

How did you address your Statement of Intent in your PSA? Did you meet the other Requirements?

I did most of what I said I was going to do, yet the Star Wars themed text was not included in my PSA video.
  • 30 - 55 seconds   ---The allotted time was almost two minutes, almost 1 1/2 minutes
  • Animated text ---- Their was animated text
  • Music or voice-over ---Their was intense music (instrumentals and voice-overs).

What would you do differently? What was the easiest and hardest part about producing your video? Any other comments about creating your PSA?
If I could do something differently, it would probably be tweaking the voice-over for the second embedded clip to be louder than the intense music instrumental that starts over the voice(s) in the second embedded clip. The easiest part would be finding the intense music, and making the title clips with the animated texts on them, and keeping the theme in place (end-of-the-world). The hardest part was placing video and sound transitions in place, and keeping the transitions concise and smooth.

PSA Assignment

Examples

The Girl Effect PSA- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIvmE4_KMNw
The PSA is attention-grabbing and actually kept me wanting what the reason why I had to wait as words flashed across that described the overall theme (the theme appeared at the end).

3 funny PSA's-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L2hDkxHvbA
The PSAs were funny, in a way, and even worse...they were all endorsed by a dubbed 'AD-HD council'. They were all attention-grabbing that made me wonder what would happen next (and actually wait for an outcome).

How to Write A Public Service Announcement article

I think the article is very explanatory on how to create an effective PSA, and suprisingly, I never knew that creativity wasn't one of the things that people needed to create an effective one. I now know that in order for a PSA to be concise in its message, the PSA needs to first focus on the results, and not take a multitude of alternative routes to get to the result in the first place. Emotion (sadness is a common theme) needs to also focus on one 'core' message.

My PSA

  • The key points I will emphasize will be about how the places we live, work, and go to school give off emissions that is harmful for our environment, and in the long run, most of these buildings will continue to harm the environment in the long-run during its life stage (it even does that during the construction of the building).
  • Audio-I think something that is intense (end-of-the-world theme); I think visuals would be clips similar to that type of theme
  • My PSA will be comedic, but at the same time one that has a message and full of awareness
  • Starts with text (probably Star Wars themed text), coinciding with intense/climatic audio, and footage of the world spinning, with voice speaking over clip (rest of it is still in the planning stage).

Capstone Project Statement of Intent
  • My goal in my capstone project is to find a way to make people aware of the excessive energy consumption that houses, shopping centers, office buildings, schools, and many other buildings. A person can really make a change by finding a way to reduce the amount of water usage while, for example, brushing their teeth or even taking a shower - the of energy consumption, anywhere and everywhere in the home, can be reduced if an individual is more aware. To add to that, I'm going to research in-depth on the architecture (my intended major) side of the energy consumption (during construction and after construction, during a building's life-span).
  • This excessive energy consumption does correlate directly with carbon emissions and other harmful substances that go into the air. This, in return, contributes to the overall global warming that has been impacting the planet everyday.
  • I will be focusing more on the architecture side of things, and may even lean towards a broader perspective when looking into the impact buildings have on the environment (i.e. include some landscape architecture, environmental design/science, urban planning, etc.).
  • The reduction of energy consumption, even if the home or building is not LEED certified, can happen by reducing the energy consumption where it matters. Only then will not only will this help the community, but the planet as a whole.
